About Pieter

Dutch photographer, based in Sweden. I was born in 1974 in the Netherlands, where I initially intended to work in forestry, but then moved to Sweden in 1999. After a few years, I turned to photojournalism and trained at the Nordens Fotoskola. Since 2002, I have worked as a freelance photographer in many different parts of the world.

I have produced numerous photographic work for the press and NGO’s, documenting the consequences of natural disasters, political conflicts or societal demands throughout the world, in countries like Colombia, Pakistan, Russia, the United States, Egypt, Kenya, Iraq, Syria and Afghanistan.

Four times winner of the World Press Photo.
